Ryan Russell, associate professor in the Stuckeman School’s Department of Graphic Design at Penn State, was recently recognized by the University & College Designers Association for the “Mind Your Mask” initiative he launched in March in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kimi Mate, a second-year graphic design student in the Stuckeman School, designed the THON 2021 logo to follow this year’s “Rise and Unify” theme.

The THON website recently published a new virtual gallery showcasing five previous logos from the annual event as well as the designers responsible for them, four of which are now alumni of the Graphic Design program.

The Penn State Stuckeman School is hosting a series of seven virtual lectures during the spring 2021 semester, including guests from the fields of architecture, landscape architecture and graphic design.

Ryan Russell, associate professor of graphic design, was awarded an honorable mention in the 2020 Ecuador Poster Bienal for his animated social campaign design titled “Release. Reform.”

Taylor Shipton, assistant teaching professor in graphic design, received a gold award in the international Graphis Photography Annual 2021 competition for her work that examines the history of rape culture.

Jake and Pum Lefebure, co-founders of the 2020 PRINT magazine Agency of the Year Design Army, joins the Stuckeman School at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 5 as part of the school’s Spring Virtual Lecture Series.

The Department of Graphic Design is hosting two virtual lectures featuring designers from Google and Amazon, respectively, in conjunction with the Stuckeman School’s Career Day 2021 on March 3.

Seventeen designs by Penn State graphic design students garnered honors at the 2020 AIGA Blue Ridge Flux Student Design Competition, with one student earning a best in category award.

An animated social campaign designed by Ryan Russell, associate professor of graphic design, has been selected by the Fourth Shenzhen International Poster Festival and is on display in the Shenzhen Guan Shanyue Art Museum in China through April 5.

Designs by 10 Penn State graphic design students and their professors earned awards in the Graphis New Talent annual 2021 competition, with another eight designs earning honorable mention awards.

Fourth-year students in the undergraduate Graphic Design program within the Stuckeman School at Penn State are hosting their senior design showcase this spring through a variety of media that culminates with two evenings of student presentations and Q&A sessions via Zoom from 6 to 8:30 p.m. April 19 and 20.

Stuckeman School third-year graphic design students in Associate Professor Ryan Russell’s “Practical Communications” course this past semester were recently recognized for their collaborative work by the United Design Alliance International Design Competition 2021 in the Signs, Systems and Letterform Marks category.

Emily Burns, assistant professor in the Stuckeman School’s Department of Graphic Design, has been recognized by the University and College Designers Association 2021 Design Awards with an Award of Excellence for her book cover for “Writing as Resistance,” published by Penn State University Press.

Third-year graphic design student Taylor Kuszyk has earned national recognition for her work, collecting two honorable mentions in the 2021 University and College Designers Association Design Awards and another in Graphex 52, the 52nd annual Regional Design Award Exhibition sponsored by the Art Directors Club of Tulsa.
