The graphic design class of 2018 will present "Film Follies 2018," a series of short films created by graphic design seniors, at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 14, in 101 Thomas Building on the University Park campus.

It is not every day that undergraduate students get projects and in-person critique from a global brand leader, but that’s exactly what happened in ta third-year applied communications graphic design class at Penn State.

Penn State students are invited to learn more about campus arts organizations and performance ensembles during the College of Arts and Architecture’s annual Arts Day, Monday, Oct. 8, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.

The College of Arts and Architecture and the Arts and Architecture Alumni Society will honor the college’s 2018 Alumni Award winners in a ceremony at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, in the Palmer Lipcon Auditorium. Established in 1981 by the Alumni Society, the award is presented as part of a campus visit that also includes meeting with faculty, administrators and current students.

Phil Choo, professor and coordinator of the master of fine arts in graphic design program in the Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History at Oklahoma State University, has been appointed as head of the Penn State Graphic Design program, effective January 2019, after a national search.

MOCEAN LA, a leading independent marketing and creative advertising agency headed by Penn State alumnus Michael McIntyre, was named Agency of the Year at the 2018 Clio Entertainment Awards, held earlier this month in Los Angeles.

Phil Choo, a national and international award-winning designer who was named the head of the graphic design program in December, will be the guest of honor at a welcome reception at 5 p.m. on Jan. 14. Following the reception, Choo will speak about his past experiences and his vision for the Penn State graphic design program moving into the new year and beyond. Both the reception and the talk, which is slated for 6 p.m., will be held in the Jury Space in the Stuckeman Family Building.

Senior students and faculty in the Graphic Design program at Penn State made a strong showing in the 2019 Graphis New Talent Annual Award competition with two projects earning top honors (Platinum Awards) and another eight earning Gold and Silver Awards.

Megan Tam and Jacqueline Siry, both sophomore graphic design students at Penn State, won awards for their work in the American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA) Blue Ridge 2018 Flux Student Design Competition.

Every year, junior graphic design students at Penn State are tasked with submitting designs for the THON logo. Students start with an idea and work to perfect it until they make their vision into a design reality. This year, the design chosen to represent the “Shape the Moment” theme was that of Haley Stipes.

Seniors in the Penn State graphic design program within the Stuckeman School will present the culmination of their work from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, on the third floor of the Stuckeman Family Building at University Park.

Emily Burns, assistant teaching professor of graphic design within the Stuckeman School, is curating a new exhibition by artist Kaveri Raina that opens April 12 at the Assembly Room in New York’s Lower East Side.

Three students in Penn State’s graphic design program were acknowledged for their work as part of the Pittsburgh chapter of AIGA, a professional organization for design.

The design team of Alexis Stern, Amelia Ball, Kayla Corazzi, Callahan Miller and Noemie Noullet produced the video that artist Christiane Dolores deemed best in their Time and Sequence class. The friendship between the instructor of the course, Rodney Allen Trice, and the artist was the basis for the collaboration, which has led to some unexpected publicity of the students' work.

Two posters designed by Ryan Russell, associate professor of graphic design, have been accepted into the 2019 Bienal del Cartel Bolivia BICeBé, a biennial elite international design event in Bolivia.

Penn State architecture alumna Patricia Kucker, who has spent the past 27 years in higher education administration, has been named the interim director of the Stuckeman School in the Penn State College of Arts and Architecture.

Mále Reguero, a 2018 alumna of the Graphic Design Program, is applying what she learned as an undergraduate to her role as a junior designer focused on user interface with Rent the Runway.

Huiwon Lim, previously a lecturer in the Department of Graphic Design at Iowa State University, will join the faculty of the Graphic Design program within the Stuckeman School as an assistant professor on Aug. 16.

The Stuckeman Center for Design Computing within the Penn State Stuckeman School will hold its annual Flash Symposium Sept. 23-24 in the Stuckeman Family Building in the hopes of educating attendees on new discoveries in virtual and augmented reality.

The work of Ryan Russell, associate professor of graphic design at Penn State, has earned grand prize honors in the United Designs Alliance 2019 International Poster Competition.
